The process will be the same as for the small parcel deliveries.
Larger Parcel Deliveries up to 100kg
The larger items in this category tend to be large storage units, heavy sideboards, beds etc. Again, various courier companies are used to deliver these items. Most offer a tracking service, so that’s why we need your email address and your best contact number. Either of these methods will be used to give you an ETA on your product(s). Most will give you a day for the delivery, some will indicate whether it is AM or PM and some will give you a tracking number so you can see where you are on the route. Most of our small products are free delivery but still make sure there is no surcharge for your area. If in doubt just contact the office on 01254 247075
PALLET DELIVERIES – Outdoor Living
Pallet Deliveries
Garden furniture, water features, garden stoves etc are usually products that would be sent on a pallet. Some of our products will be despatched direct from the supplier or if we have it in stock in the store, we will organise the product to be despatched via a pallet network company. The pallet network company will give you an ETA via either an email or text. If you need to know whether we deliver to your area and if this incurs any surcharges. Please get in touch with the office 01254 247075.
Trailer/Truck Deliveries – Garden Buildings/Structures
This delivery method tends to be for the garden buildings i.e., sheds, gazebos, summerhouses, garden rooms etc. We use various methods of transport for these deliveries. Most are delivered on a trailer and we tend to quote individually for this as it all depends on the location, what size of building is being delivered and how many people needed to unload. These will all carry different lead times too depending on where they are being sent from. We endeavour to do our best to keep you in the loop with this process and will notify you as soon as possible if we anticipate any delay.
Delivery Communication
A lot of our deliveries are organised via our suppliers who each use their own personal delivery courier. They each will pass on the contact information to the courier which will allow them to carry out an effective delivery. Various methods are used to give you an ETA on this. Please ensure you keep your phone handy or check your email regularly when leading up to a delivery. If a delivery is pre booked with a customer and the delivery cannot take place due to no access or no one being around to sign for the delivery, you may incur a re-delivery charge or if the product needs to be returned then the amount for this will also be charged. This is why it is important to notify the courier as soon as you know there is a problem and keep an eye on you text messages and emails. It may also be wise to check your junk and spam boxes just in case.
What the customer should tell us before a delivery takes place
We carry out numerous deliveries throughout the year through our couriers and ourselves problem free, but on occasions things don’t go quite to plan for the couriers and in most instances could have been avoided.
Things to consider:
Will you be in on the day of delivery as the driver could turn up at any time between 8.00 am and 6pm on that day unless a timeslot has been given to you.
Most delivery companies provide a curb side service and it is down to the discretion of the driver as to whether they go the extra mile and place the product in a convenient place for you. In our experience this does tend to happen where it is doable and hassle free for the driver. A lot of the couriers run tight schedules and will only have a small amount of time for the drop.
If the product is being delivered with a pallet truck they will usually leave on the curb outside your house unless the ground in your garden is tarmacked, paved or concrete. It needs to be a completely smooth surface in order for the pallet truck to function properly. Again, this will be at the discretion of the delivery driver.
For the larger heavier items, you may need to obtain some extra help. Please don’t rely on the delivery driver to be able to carry out any extra lifting, dismantling etc. If it is an inhouse delivery we more often than not deliver with two people and dismantle and stack as part of a pre negotiated price. Other than this you may need some extra help so always check first.
Height restrictions can sometimes be an issue, often gates have overhead arches as part of their design. Depending on the size of the product being delivered this could potentially be a problem. It might be wise to get a tape measure out and measure the longest point in which the product will go through i.e., will it go in if it is turned sideways etc. So, things to consider and something that may need checking out first.
If you have ordered furniture you will need to have pre assessed whether your product will fit through doorways, stairwells and staircases. This includes any table tops in excess of 220cm. If you are in any doubt, please call the office before making a purchase. A delivery charge will need to be added should we need to return the item to the store.
At the driver’s discretion sometimes, they will place in a convenient location in your garden. In order for the pallet truck to function correctly and move your package to the designated delivery location the ground needs to be level, tarmacked, paved or concreted with no steps or bumps for it to get stuck on. It will not run on grass, pebbles, gravel or soil.
The deliveries on pallets will not be lifted upstairs or hoisted into gardens due to health and safety issues so a curb side delivery will be undertaken in these circumstances.
Can you get a 7.5 tonne lorry down your street, road, cul-de-sac, drive. If you are aware a delivery is taking place you need to ensure there is ample space near the property for the delivery vehicle to park and unload your product(s). This may mean asking neighbours to move cars on that particular day or putting cones out in front of your property.
Before the delivery drive departs, we ask you to check the product for any damages, the driver will make a note of any damage and return the item to the relevant supplier. If you don’t manage to check the goods upon the delivery, we allow 48 hours after signing for the goods for damages to be reported to us. Claims for damages outside this period may be rejected. Please see our Returns Policy for more information.
Due to the weight and size of some of the products, when the delivery arrives, please ensure that you move any pets and minors out of harm’s way.
If you have any doubts at all about the convenience and safety of the delivery, please do not hesitate to get in touch and discuss with us to see what options are available.
