Greenhouse Paint and Treatment
Treatments
We supply our products with two finishes. They come as either a treated finish or as a painted finish. As standard (un painted) they come pressure treated in tanalith E preservative which is a natural finish with a green tint to it. Over time the green will fade and the product will become brown then that will again fade and the whole product will turn grey. This doesn’t mean that the product is no longer treated it is just natural weathering of the timber and treatment. Although the building is pretreated we recommend retreating each year to prolong the life of the product. Treatment for painted buildings All our painted buildings are also pressure treated in a treatment tank similar to our standard buildings but in a different treatment. The tanalised preservative has too much salt in for the paint to adhere too correctly and comes in from the mills far too wet to paint onto so we did some research and found the best pressure treatment for applying coatings too and used this for our painted buildings. Paint In the early days of making garden buildings all we made was pressure treated buildings. Over and over we were getting requests for painted buildings so we ran tests and did experiments and came up with a selection of our own colours that have proven to be extremely popular. We made our own in-house spray booth and drying room and came up with a system that all our painted buildings go through to give the best possible finish and life longevity. The paint company we now work with has created outdoor paints that are made specifically for the outdoor garden building and furniture industry, and have built in certain property’s with in the paints to allow it to move with the natural movement of the timber. It is a 2 coat paint system that does not require primer and has knotting inhibitor in it to help slow the leakage of knots. |

How Clearview Greenhouses are Manufactured
TIMBER
All our timber is hand selected for quality and is of furniture grade, sourced from FSC certified forestry’s from northern Sweden which is renowned for being more dense because of the climate its grown in and ensures a close grain to help reduce natural movement compared to other types of pine. So is better suited to greenhouse manufacturing than any other type and grade of pine.
TREATMENT
To ensure our Greenhouses are fully protected against all different types of fungal, decay and insect attack we have our timber treated with the next generation Tanalth E preservative which provides protection for 15 years
FIXINGS
We use stainless steel nails and screw throughout our whole manufacturing process to stop any corrosion and unsightly rust stains.
END GRAIN SEALER
During manufacturing we sand all open end grains and give two coats of end grain sealer which provides a water based barrier that penetrates in to the grains and seals it reducing moister uptake by 90%.
KNOTTING
With a patented formula the knotting we use was designed to block the most resinous knots from affecting the final paint film.
PRIMER
The first coat applied is of a water borne primer that contains a knotting inhibitor and is made up of nano particle technology to increase the penetration depth ensuring outstanding protection.
PAINTS
The final two top coats given are also water borne, micro porous opaque paints that allow the timber to move and breath naturally providing extra protective against weathering, UV degradation, mould and fungal attack. The proprietry technology minimises micro foaming in the final paint films, extending the coats durability and giving added clarity. The unique blend of water based acrylic polymers allow high film builds to be applied on the final coats to give extended life on our Greenhouses.
GLASS
All toughened safety glass is used which complies with the British Standards.
DAMP PROOF
We provide a 25mm thick plastic damp proof barriers with all our free standing Greenhouses that goes all the way around the bottom to keep the building off the ground out of any sitting rain water and we also provide a damp proof coarse for our dwarf wall greenhouses.
